Educated in architecture, philosophy, and film, Martha Sparrow's interest in narrative and imagined spaces propelled her towards a career in production design. She holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Toronto Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design.

Martha has worked as a production designer, art director, and set designer in the United States, Canada, and the Middle East with such film makers as Denis Villeneuve, Brian DePalma, Rian Johnson, and Atom Egoyan. Born in London UK but currently based in Toronto, Martha holds membership in the Art Directors Guild in Los Angeles and the Directors Guild of Canada.

Her work as art director with actor, producer, and director Elisabeth Moss on The Handmaid’s Tale and Shining Girls won her three Emmy awards and an Art Directors Guild Award, as well as further nominations. In 2023, she received another Emmy nomination and Art Directors Guild Award nomination for her work on Natasha Lyonne’s Poker Face “Orpheus Syndrome.”

Beyond the screen, Martha has acted as a guest critic at the University of Toronto and a featured speaker for Northwestern University, Production Design Week, Doors Open Toronto, Toronto Society of Architects, and Chicago Public Library. Her work and commentary have appeared in Architectural Digest, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times, Wider Lens, Awards Daily, and Perspective Magazine.

Martha continues to shape sensitive, powerful, and emotionally resonant environments for film and television. This year she heads production design for the upcoming adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Testaments.
